During this 21 days of East African safari, 4 countries will be visited and they are; Uganda, Rwanda, Tanzania and Kenya. While in Uganda you are going to visit Queen Elizabeth National Park and you will take part in a game drive in the Kasenyi plains and a boat cruise on Kazinga channel. Connect to Rwanda through Gatuna border and take part in the golden monkey trekking in Volcanoes National Park, chimpanzee trekking and canopy walk in Nyungwe forest national park.
Also, fly to Tanzania from Kigali and visit Serengeti National Park for a game drive then drive to the Ngorongoro conservation area. Still, in your 21 days east African safari, you will fly to Kenya and visit Masai Mara national park and the Masai community for a cultural experience. End your Safari from Nairobi as you fly back home.
Detailed Itinerary.
Day 1: Arrive in Kampala
When you arrive in Kampala at the airport, the company representative who will be eagerly waiting for you is going to welcome and take you through a briefing then drive to the hotel of your booking for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 2: Drive to Queen Elizabeth National Park
Wake up for breakfast then check out from the hotel and drive to Queen Elizabeth National Park which was given this name in 1952 when the Queen of England visited it but before it was called Kazinga National Park.
Drive and have a stopover in Fort portal for en-route lunch then proceed with the journey and have another stop over at the equator for photography moments. Arrive late at the lodge then have your dinner.
Day 3: Game drive and evening boat cruise.
Having had breakfast, drive to where game drive starts from. Before you set off for a game drive in the Kasenyi plains, the Park ranger guide will brief you about the rules followed during the game drive then start on the drive in the open grasslands of the Kasenyi plains. On this game drive, have a look at animals like elephants, warthogs, buffaloes, and antelopes and the high chance of spotting some of the big cats like leopards and lions. Retire to the lodge for lunch.
After off the lodge for a boat cruise on the Kazinga channel connecting lake Edward and George. Hippos, crocodiles, birds on the shores and other mammals will be looked at while on a boat cruise. Retreat to the lodge for dinner.
Day 4: Road trip to Bwindi via Ishasha sector
From your deep slumber, be served a heavy breakfast carry your bags to the car and drive to Bwindi impenetrable national Park with a stopover in the Ishasha sector where the rare tree-climbing lions are found. Have a look at them then proceed with the drive to Bwindi enjoying scenic views in the upcountry.
Day 5: Mountain gorilla trekking
Mountain gorilla trekking in Bwindi is done from 4 sectors of the park and it starts with a breakfast at the lodge then drive to headquarters for a briefing after setting off to the jungle for trekking. Trekking needs one to be physically fit because it involves hiking and sloping down the valleys searching for gorillas. The experience takes 1-7 hours depending on where they are located.
The contact time with the gorillas is only one hour and also taking in their presence is allowed. Retire to the starting point to meet the driver and travel back to the lodge.
Day 6: Cross to Volcanoes National Park
Wake up for breakfast & prepare to cross through Gatuna border from Uganda to Rwanda. Reaching Rwanda, check in at an enroute restaurant for lunch and proceed on a drive to Volcanoes national Park North of Rwanda. This park homes rare golden monkeys and endangered mountain gorillas plus other mammals as well as birds.
Day 7: Golden monkey trekking and road trip to Nyungwe Forest National Park.
Golden monkey trekking in volcanoes national park is one of the most done activities and it starts in the morning with breakfast then drive to the park headquarters for a briefing about Golden monkey trekking. With a briefing, you are going to head to the forest to look for these rare primates.
Like chimpanzees and mountain gorillas, when you sight one group of golden monkeys comprising 80 – 100 individuals, only an hour is given to you to watch them jump from one tree to another as they play, feed and groom each other among other behaviors.
After one hour, move back to the lodge and have lunch then after getting on a road trip to Nyungwe forest with primates like those in Kibale National Park in Uganda.
Day 8: Chimpanzee trekking and canopy walk.
Chimpanzees are one of the primates found in Nyungwe Forest National Park attracting many travellers to come to Rwanda to have a look at them. They are well organized in their families and each family treks once a day by a group of 8 people who are allowed to spend one hour in their presence studying their behaviors.
So, your chimpanzee trekking experience begins right away from the lodge with breakfast then you will be driven to the park headquarters to meet the ranger guide for a briefing after he will lead you to the forest to search for as I had mentioned above, only one hour will be given to you to watch them. Move back to the lodge for lunch a canopy walk can be done. On a canopy walk, you can enjoy Primate viewing, bird watching, good photography moments and breathtaking scenery.
Day 9: Fly to Arusha in Tanzania
Right after breakfast, drive to Kigali then fly to Arusha in Tanzania and meet the company representative who will brief you and then drive to the hotel that is booked for you. Dinner and overnight stay.
Day 10: Drive to Serengeti National Park
Have your breakfast at the hotel then drive to Serengeti national Park where one of the world’s wonders is found and it is the wildebeest migration in the rainy season. This park is also one of the oldest parks in Africa with a lot of biodiversity to explore. Check-in at the hotel.
Day 11-12: Serengeti National Park exploration
Wake up in the morning have your breakfast head for your full-day game drive in Serengeti national Park. Spend these two days exploring Serengeti National Park. Spend time with zebras, wildebeest, gazelles, lions, leopards, buffaloes, elephants and the sweet melodies of the birds. You will be enjoying bush lunch from the park.
Day 13: Transfer to Ngorongoro Conservation Area and evening game drive.
With breakfast in the morning, drive to the Ngorongoro conservation area where two most important archaeological site in the world. When you reach the hotel have lunch and proceed for a game drive in Ngorongoro to spot animals like elephants, hippos, crocodiles, zebras and many more. Return to the lodge.
Day 14: Morning game drive and Lake Manyara
Wake up in the morning, have breakfast then head for the morning game drive, where you will have chances of looking at the animals you missed seeing on the last day’s game drive. Move back to the lodge have breakfast then transfer to Manyara one of the three areas where the tree climbing lions can be found in the whole world.
Day 15: Game drive in Manyara national park and drive back to Arusha
Be served breakfast in the morning head for a morning game drive in Manyara where the rare tree climbing lions lazily hung in the tree waiting for dawn to come so that they can slope down to hunt their prey.
Return to the lodge for lunch after driving back to Arusha.
Day 16: Fly to Kenya and transfer to Masai mara
On 16th day, you will fly to Kenya after breakfast in the morning. When you arrive at the lodge in Masai mara, transfer to booked lodge for lunch and optional game drive in the afternoon.
Day 17- 18: Masai Mara National Park safari
These two days of your 21 days east African safari will be spent in Masai mara national park and take part in two activities; a Game drive where lots of fauna and flora will be admired and the cultural experience to the Masai community which will let you understand their culture and traditions.
Day 19: Masai mara to Lake Nakuru national park.
Transfer from Masai mara to lake Nakuru after breakfast at your lodge. On the way to Lake Nakuru, you will be enjoying good views of the local homesteads, plantations and the way people take themselves in the communities.
Day 20: Birding in Lake Nakuru National Park.
For bird lovers, this is your time. Spend the whole day birding in this area with the highest concentration of birds including pink flamingos on the lake that even cannot allow you to have a look at the water surface.
Day 21: Departure.
Drive to Nairobi from Lake Nakuru National Park. On arrival, have a short city tour as you wait for your time of flight.
