The 4-day Lowland Gorilla Trekking Safari will be an amazing experience where you trek the lowland gorillas in Kahuzi-Biega National Park, eastern D.R. Congo. This is quite different from the mountain gorillas, and an encounter with them will create lifetime memories, making your day interesting and amazing.
This safari will begin at Kigali International Airport where you will be picked up and transferred to Congo for your ultimate lowland gorilla experience and nature walks through the Lwiro trail. The safari will conclude in Kigali, Rwanda.
Detailed Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival and Transfer to the Lodge
Upon arrival at Kigali Airport, our company representative will welcome you, provide a brief orientation, and then transfer you to the lodge for overnight stay, depending on your arrival time.
Day 2: Transfer to Kahuzi-Biega National Park in D.R. Congo
Enjoy a delicious breakfast before embarking on a scenic road trip to the Democratic Republic of Congo via the Ruzizi border in Cyangugu. Have lunch en route, visit Nyanza Palace and the Ethnographic Museum, then continue your drive to Bukavu to check in at the lodge.
Day 3: Lowland Gorilla Trekking and Nature Walk in Kahuzi-Biega National Park
After breakfast, your driver guide will transfer you to the park headquarters to meet ranger guides who will brief you and lead you into the forest to search for endangered lowland gorillas. Spend about 5-6 hours searching for them; upon finding them, you will have one hour to observe their behaviors and way of life. Return to the park station for a picnic lunch, and in the evening, enjoy a nature walk through the scenic Lwiro trail.
During the nature walk, you will explore waterfalls and observe primates such as red-tailed monkeys, black and white colobus monkeys, grey-cheeked mangabeys, and birds like the Rwenzori turaco. After the nature walk, return to the lodge for dinner.
Day 4: Transfer to Kigali. End of Tour
After breakfast, check out from the lodge and meet your driver guide who will drive you back to Kigali, offering views of local homes, beautiful scenery, and the rolling hills of Rwanda. Later in the evening, fly back to your home country.
