Detailed Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival at Kigali Airport and Transfer to Volcanoes National Park
On the first day of your 4-day gorilla safari, you will be greeted by a driver guide and our company representative at the airport. They will drive you to Volcanoes National Park, known for its population of endangered mountain gorillas. The journey takes 2-3 hours, with stopovers at scenic points for photography.
Enjoy the breathtaking views of Rwanda, known as the “land of a thousand hills.” Check in at your lodge for meals and rest, preparing for the adventure the next day.
Day 2: Gorilla Trekking Adventure
To make the most of your day, wake up early and enjoy a delicious breakfast. Later, drive to the park offices for a briefing. After receiving instructions from the rangers, a guide will lead you into the forest to begin your search for the endangered mountain gorillas.
Gorilla trekking typically lasts between 2-7 hours, depending on the gorillas’ location the previous night. Once you find them, you will spend one hour in their presence. After trekking, return to the park offices to receive your trekking certificate and then drive back to your lodge for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 3: Transfer to Lake Kivu
Start your day with a hearty breakfast at the lodge before driving to Lake Kivu, Rwanda’s largest lake located in the western region, a short distance from Volcanoes National Park.
The lake is ideal for boat trips as it is free from crocodiles and hippos. Enjoy the stunning scenery, beaches, islands, and community-based activities along the lakeshore. Check in at your lodge on the shores of Lake Kivu for dinner.
Day 4: Transfer Back to Kigali and Departure
On the final day of your safari, begin with breakfast in the morning. Then, head to Kigali city, which is a 3-hour drive (approximately 187 kilometers).
Optionally, visit Kimironko Central Market, Rwanda’s oldest market, where you can purchase souvenirs to remember your amazing safari experience. From there, proceed to Kigali International Airport for your departure flight back home.
