Detailed Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival and City Tour in Kigali
Pick up at Kigali International Airport and transfer to Kigali city after a briefing about your 4-day Akagera NP safari. If you arrive early, a quick city tour will include a visit to the Gisozi Memorial Center, offering insight into the 1994 Rwanda genocide. You will also visit local markets, craft centers, and other historical sites before being dropped off at a hotel for dinner and an overnight stay.
Day 2: Road Trip to Akagera National Park for Wildlife Viewing
Wake up early for breakfast, then drive to Akagera National Park – a 1.5-hour drive in a 4×4 safari vehicle with a pop-up roof. Arrive at Akagera early and enjoy lunch at the lodge. In the afternoon, experience the incredible wilderness of Akagera as you observe big game, antelopes, giraffes, zebras, and birds.
Day 3: Game Drive & Launch Cruise
After breakfast, depart from your lodge for a morning game drive in Akagera, lasting 2-3 hours in a 4×4 tourist car. Today’s animal sightings may include large herds of buffaloes, elephants, lion prides, leopards, antelopes, rhinos, Masai giraffes, warthogs, hyenas, birds, and more. Return to the lodge for lunch, relax, and in the afternoon, embark on another game viewing session – a 2-3 hour boat cruise on Lake Ihema. Encounter large schools of hippos, crocodiles, and aquatic birds during the boat cruise.
Day 4: Departure
Check out of the lodge after breakfast and exit Akagera National Park while viewing some of its wildlife species. Have lunch upon arrival in Kigali and be dropped off at the airport for departure.
