Volcanoes national park is located at the base of the enormous Virunga Mountain range. The 11th tallest mountain on the African continent, Mount. Karisimbi, has snow on its summit. It lies near the borders with Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of Congo. About two days are needed to hike to the peak and back. Gorilla tracking and climbing Mount Karisimbi’s peak are the activities. The extra activities include visiting Musanze caves and exploring local cultures.
Trip Overview.
Day 1: Pickup and transfer to Volcanoes National Park.
When you arrive at the Kigali international airport or from a convenient location, our company driver guide will be waiting for you with a big smile. After this, travel to Volcanoes National Park to see Aquator of the world’s mountain gorilla species.
The park can be reached after a two to three-hour picturesque journey that offers views of the lush foliage and undulating hills. After checking in at the lodge, you’ll head out for lunch. The Musanze caves will be open for exploration for an optional hour in the evening. Dinner and bedtime bring an end to this day.
Day 2: Gorilla trekking and optional cultural adventure.
After an early breakfast at the lodge, get dressed for gorilla trekking and pack lunch before driving to Volcanoes National Park for a pre-trek briefing. The ranger guides will assign you a gorilla troop to track there and go over the dos and don’ts of hiking. A gorilla and a human share 98% of their DNA, making them the closest living cousins. Depending on your tracking speed and how far the apes have gone, the tracking lasts anywhere from 1 to 8 hours.
An hour of photography and ape watching marks the pinnacle of the tracking exercise. You eat lunch in the forest before returning to the lodge with fascinating tales. While on your tour of the location, you may also encounter with other primates, birds, and mammals. Finish your trek, then head back to the lodge for a break, dinner, and a night’s rest.
Day 3: Ascend Karisimbi Mountain.
One of the five mountains in Volcanoes National Park is Mountain Karisimbi. This mountain which requires at least two days to climb and descend, is somewhat difficult and calls for some level of fitness.
You will begin the six-hour climb to the base camp, which is located at an elevation of 3,700 meters above sea level, after the briefing at Mount. Karisimbi’s foot. The guide will hike with you and point your various sights, nearby mountains and other things.
Eat your lunch at the pre-arranged location, then move on to the camp where you will retire for dinner and a well-deserving sleep.
Day 4: Descend Mountain Karisimbi.
After spending a night at the campsite on Karisimbi Mountain, you will have a hearty breakfast before starting the ascent. With the stunning scenery, greenery and more, this takes roughly 4 hours.
Reach the summit, and spend some time taking photos. After that, you will make your way back to the beginning, where you will meet our driver guide for a Arrive at the lodge in time for lunch and some downtime. Finish the day with a leisurely nap and dinner.
Day 5: Transfer to Kigali Rwanda.
Have a leisurely breakfast at the lodge upon waking up, and then check out for the two-hour drive to Kigali city or the international airport. An optional city trip of Kigali will take you to the local marketplaces where you can purchase some souvenirs from the area, the genocide memorial site and other historical sites. Once you’ve finished your lunch in the city, travel to the airport to catch up with your outbound flight.
