The 5 days Rwanda gorillas and Akagera safari is quite another interesting safari which many visitors take while on their visit to Africa mostly in Rwanda the land of a thousand hills. The safari is conducted in two major National parks of Akagera and volcanoes national park also known as the home of mountain gorillas. This 5 days Rwanda gorillas and Akagera safari will start from Kigali airport to Akagera national where you have a chance to do a game drive and a boat cruise on lake Ihema and move to volcanoes national park for gorilla trekking after which you will proceed to Ibyiwacu cultural centre for a cultural experience that will end your activities and then head to Kigali having an option of visiting the Kigali genocide memorial center and then fly home
Detailed Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival at the airport and transfer to Akagera national park.
On this first day of your 5 days Rwanda gorillas and Akagera, be prepared for a pickup at your hotel in Kigali by your driver guide who will shortly brief you about the safari and immediately after your briefing, drive heading to Akagera national park the home of the big five animals passing through the beautiful wilderness of this land of a thousand hills. Check-in at your booked lodge in the area for your meal plans.
Day 2: Morning game drive and afternoon boat cruise on Lake Ihema
Wake up early in the morning for your breakfast at the lodge and transfer to Akagera national park for a game drive an activity that will add more spots for the big five animals like the Elephants, leopards, buffalos, Rhinos, lions and other savannah animals like zebras, giraffes, impalas, olive baboons and many more which will leave a smile on your face. Return to your lodge for lunch.
After your lunch at the lodge, embark on an afternoon boat cruise which is usually done on lake Ihema. While here, expect to have large numbers of wildlife animals grazing such as hippos, crocodiles, buffalos and many but to mention a few. Have your evening game drive on your way back to the lodge for a dinner.
Day 3: Transfer to Volcanoes National Park
On your 3rd day of this 5 days Rwanda gorillas and Akagera safari, have your breakfast at the and then check out from the lodge heading to volcanoes national park driving through the beautiful landscapes, coffee plantations, hills and other more interesting things as seen on your drive to the park. Have your enroute lunch at your booked lodge and wait for your evening meals
Day 4: Mountain gorilla trekking and cultural tour
This is the day which you have been waiting for. Begin it with your well-served breakfast together with your cup of coffee and then transfer to the park main gate to finalize your payments and get a briefing from the park officials. This briefing will be short mainly covering the rules and regulations to follow while on the activity.
After the briefing, an armed ranger guide will lead you to the starting point and start looking for these gorillas. The activity usually takes 1-8 hours but depends on the movements and location of these giant animals. It is important to note that as soon as you reach these primates an hour will be given to you in the presence of these animals and be allowed to take some photos and videos of their young ones playing.
Report back to the office for a trekking certificate and drive to the lodge and have a relaxation moment. After relaxing embark on your evening cultural tour where you will spend some time at Iby’iwachu cultural village learning about the traditions and cultures of the Kinyarwanda, music, dance, drama, art and crafts of the Rwandan people. Return to your lodge for dinner.
Day 5: Return to Kigali and fly back home.
On the last day of your safari, begin this day with a delicious dish at your lodge after which drive heading to Kigali international airport. On your way, you can optionally decide to visit the Kigali genocide memorial centre and look at the remains of the 1994 genocide victims between the Hutus and Tutsi that claimed lives of over 800,000 people. Continue with the drive to the airport and fly back home.
