Day 1: Trip to Mountain Gorilla Destination – Bwindi NP
A full day dedicated to traveling from Entebbe/Kampala to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park in southwestern Uganda. Drive through major districts/cities like Masaka and Mbarara to Kabale town in a 4×4 tourist car. The journey to Bwindi takes 8 to 9 hours, with a chance to stop at the Equator crossing for photos or a water experiment to demonstrate the two hemispheres of the earth (Northern & Southern).
Continue with a short drive to Igongo or a nearby hotel around Mbarara for lunch, then proceed through the scenic landscape of southwestern Uganda. Check in at a comfortable accommodation in or near Bwindi for a relaxed evening, dinner, and overnight stay.
Day 2: Enjoy the Best of Bwindi Gorilla Tracking
Wake up early for a hot cup of tea/coffee, then join other trekkers for a briefing on Bwindi mountain gorilla trekking guidelines at the park offices. The park officials will conduct this exercise and assign you an experienced park guide and a gorilla family. At 8:00 a.m., the trek begins through the jungles with your guide. It can last 2-6 hours, so bring bottled water, packed lunch, or high-energy snacks.
Your fitness level matters, but the search for mountain gorillas typically includes a special 1-hour close encounter. Afterward, have lunch in the jungle before returning to the park offices. Rest a bit and later, visit the Batwa or Bakiga community for a cultural experience.
