This 7 days Bwindi gorilla trekking circuit is one of the best, most interesting and rewarding safaris that many travellers to Uganda would like to do. The safari is a good one as it will take you to the Uganda wildlife education centre – former zoo and view interesting animals and then transfer to a hotel from where you will transfer to Buhoma sector passing through Queen Elizabeth National Park.
Later you will proceed to Nkuringo sector where you will visit different gorilla families and after head to Rushaga sector to see its unique gorilla families. Continue to the Ruhija sector and then transfer back to Kampala with a stopover at the equator for lunch and photos and after the photos, you will proceed to the airport and fly back to your home country.
Detailed Itinerary.
Day 1: Arrive in Entebbe, visit the Uganda Wildlife Education centre (former zoo) and transfer to your hotel.
Pick up from the airport by your driver guide as soon as you arrive who will give you a short briefing about the journey. The briefing is always simple and quick usually summarizing the guidelines to follow while on your safari and later brief you on a drive to the Uganda wildlife education centre – former Entebbe Zoo.
While here you will have a look at different animals such as lions, hyenas, Uganda kobs, snakes, pythons and some bird species such as the shoebill stork. After the visit, you will drive to your booked hotel for overnight stay.
Day 2: Transfer to Buhoma sector – north of Bwindi National Park.
Wake up early in the morning and be served morning breakfast at the hotel. Later head to Buhoma Sector of Bwindi impenetrable national park in the southwestern part of Uganda passing via the equator monument in Mpigi for short stopover and photography.
Report to your booked lodge in the late evening for relaxation and dinner.
Day 3: Gorilla trekking and head to Nkuringo sector.
On this day, wake up early in the morning and be served your morning dishes after driving heading to the main headquarters for payments and after moving to the starting point where you will meet a park ranger who will lead you to the Buhoma sector for trekking. The sector is located in the northern part of the park in Kanungu district and is the most visited sector of all.
The experience usually takes 1-7 hours depending on the movements made by these giant animals. It is important to note that as soon as you reach them, an extra one hour will be given to you watching them as you are taking photos and short videos of their young ones playing. After you will move back to the office back for your trekking certificate and then drive heading to the Nkuringo sector and then to a booked lodge for your meals.
Day 4: Gorilla trekking experience and head to Rushaga sector.
On this day, wake up early in the morning and enjoy breakfast. Then drive to Nkuringo sector located in the southern part of the park. The sector has got 4 families and it was the second sector to be established in 1997.
Head to the starting point for briefing and later start a search for the gorilla family for 1-7 hours. Upon seeing them, one hour will be given to you in their presence and after head to the office for your certificate and drive to Rushaga sector where you will have a night stay at your booked lodge.
Day 5: Gorilla trekking adventure and head to Ruhija sector.
To catch up with time, wake up early in the morning and be served your breakfast. Drive heading for trekking in Rushaga sector which is the only sector with habituated gorilla families and is known to have up to 8 habituated gorilla families.
Trekking in this sector can be well done and usually takes the same time as the above in other sectors. As soon as you reach on them, an hour will be given to you in their presence. Get your trekking certificate and proceed to Ruhija sector for your evening meals and night stay.
Day 6: Gorilla trekking in Ruhija and leisure.
This is the last sector to visit according to your safari itinerary. Begin your day with a well-served breakfast at your lodge and later head for gorilla trekking in Ruhija. The sector has got 4 habituated gorilla families and trekking usually takes 1-7 hours but depending on their movement.
Immediately after reaching them, an hour will be given to you in their presence taking photos and videos and after move to the office for a trekking certificate. Report to your lodge for relaxation and dinner.
Day 7: Transfer back to Kampala and a stopover at the equator for lunch, photos and experiment.
Being the last day of your safari, wake up early in the morning and be served your delicious breakfast and later begin the drive heading to Kampala city. On your way to Kampala, have a stopover at the equator in Kayabwe for photography, lunch and after proceed with the journey to Entebbe airport and fly back home.
