Take part in this 10 days Rwanda gorillas and Kilimanjaro kike safari which will take you to the beautiful land of a thousand hills to visit the mountain gorillas in the Volcanoes national park. This experience enables visitors to spend an hour in their presence taking memorable photos and videos. Also, take part in hiking Mount Kilimanjaro found in Tanzania hence enjoying the true wilderness of Tanzania.
The hike will take you to the highest point in Africa and fourth in the world. There will be an option of visiting the local community of Iby’iwachu cultural village and a must-tour in Kigali city where places like the genocide memorial grounds, local markets, and much more won’t be missed.
Detailed Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival in Tanzania and transfer to Moshi Town
Arrive at the airport and immediately meet the assigned driver guide who will first take you through a briefing about this great adventure safari of its own. You won’t waste much time, head to the booked hotel in Moshi Town for an overnight stay.
Day 2: Transfer to Machame gate and hike to Shira camp
Begin the day with breakfast and then transfer to Machame gate where you receive all the information concerned about hiking to Uhuru peak and descending. After registration and acquiring all the necessary materials to use while on this lifetime adventure, begin the hike to Shira camp under the guidance of an expert park ranger and potters will be behind you carrying extra luggage.
Pass through the rain forests via the ridges and it will take between 4 to 6 hours depending on the speed. The night will be spent at Shira camp.
Day 3: Shira camp through Lava tower to Barranco camp
Wake up to heavy breakfast and being to ascend to more areas of the mountain and this will enable you to view more of the different vegetation found in Mount. Kilimanjaro and Barranco the nest camp is located at 13,000 meters above sea level. Connect to the Shira plateau through the lava tower in the southern parts of the mountains. Spend another night at Barranco camp
Day 4: Barranco to Karanga camp.
Wake up and be served with delicious breakfast and the adventure will begin immediately as you hike to Karanga camp which is at an elevation of 13,100 meters above sea level.
This day’s hike will take about 4 to 5 hours through the alpine deserts which offer great photography points and you will cross the Karanga bridgehead to the camp. Have a great time at the campfire at night in the mountain.
Day 5: Karanga to Barafu camp
Start up a busy hiking day with breakfast early in the morning which will take about 4 to 6 hours walking. You will reach another camp called Barafu – a Swahili word meaning “ice”. This means that the freezing zone will begin and you will need more warmers such as hot water, blackest and many more. While at Barafu camp, have a great view of Kibo and Mawanza peaks a hike takes about 5 to 6 hours.
Day 6: Barafu to the summit and descend to Mweka hut.
The hike will begin at around 02:00 hours with warm jackets and torches for lighting because it will still be night. You will use the Stella route as you trek to the summit of this iconic mountain in Africa. Breakfast will then be served at Stella point with beautiful scenery while in the mountain.
Later on, proceed to Uhuru peak the highest point in Africa and fourth in the world to take memorable photos. After a beautiful time of taking pictures and a fun time, you will slope to Barafu camp for refreshment and then to Mweka camp where you will sleep.
Day 7: Mweka camp / Mweka gate and transfer back to Moshi.
Enjoy a night’s sleep and wake up in the morning for hot shower and then a cup of tea or coffee will be served. Descend further towards the Mweka gate where you will sign out and return all the hired materials.
The driver guide will be ready to take you to the hotel in Moshi Town where you will spend another great night. There is an option of taking a massage to release the body’s fatigue.
Day 8: Fly to Kigali and transfer to Volcanoes National Park
Head to the airport to board your scheduled flight to Kigali International Airport where you will meet the tour representative from our company, who will take you through briefing session about the remaining days of the itinerary and immediately transfer you to Volcanoes national park.
This is a home of endangered mountain gorillas and other creatures like the rare golden monkeys and many more others. The road trip will last for 3 to 4 hours but trust me it will be an amazing one in your lifetime since it’s covered with beautiful scenery. Arrive and head to the lodge for a night’s stay.
Day 9: Gorilla trekking, optional visit to Ibyiwacu cultural village
Wake up on a delicious breakfast and head to the park offices where the briefing takes place. You will have a great time as you are told the rules and regulations to follow while trekking, mountain gorilla behaviors and other creatures in this beautiful national park. The park guide will take you to the forest to start the search through trekking and discovering attractions such as plants, primates, bird species and much more.
The mountain gorillas live in groups and upon location in a group, spend an hour in the presence of this family taking capturing memories through pictures and videos. Note that, flashlight cameras are not allowed since the gorillas will tend to move away. Enjoy the moments such as breastfeeding and grooming young ones as the silverback takes part in parenting and leading the family. Trekking can take about 2 to 7 hours depending on where you first sight the gorilla family visited but an hour will be spent while in their presence.
Head back to the lodge for lunch and this will be followed by an optional visit to Ibyiwacu cultural village, a community initiative aimed at conserving mountain gorillas and the Rwandan culture. Enjoy their entertaining music and dances.
Day 10: Transfer back to Kigali, short city tour and drop off at the airport
Begin the day with breakfast and then transfer to Kigali where you will have a short city tour, to visit the Kigali genocide memorial grounds, local markets, art gallery centers and much more. After lunch, head to the airport and this will mark the end of 10 days safari in Mt Kilimanjaro and Volcanoes national park.
