Explore the largest primates in the world for 4 hours during this 3-day gorilla habituation experience at Bwindi. Embark on a road trip to the tropical forest, one of the oldest and most renowned in Africa. The process of habituating gorillas to human presence, allowing visitors to witness gorilla life up close and personally, is an incredibly intimate experience.
Bwindi Impenetrable National Park is located in the southwest of Uganda at the base of the massive Virunga Mountain ranges, stretching across the Democratic Republic of Congo and Rwanda. You will head to the Rushaga sector on the designated day to participate in the Gorilla Habituation experience.
Detailed Safari
Day 1: Pickup and drive to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park
A company representative will meet and greet you at the designated pickup location, either Entebbe International Airport or Kampala, the capital city of Uganda. After offering a glass of juice, checking the necessary paperwork, and providing a pre-trip briefing, you’ll embark on a magnificent 9 to 10-hour journey to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park.
Pass through undulating hills, rich foliage, and scattered homesteads of the countryside. You will stop for lunch en route and arrive at the park lodge at sunset for refreshments, dinner, and a restful night’s sleep. The majority of Uganda’s tourist attractions lie in the west, promising fascination throughout the drive.
Day 2: Gorilla Habituation adventure
Today is the perfect time to start including gorillas in your memories and stories. After a hearty breakfast at the lodge, transfer to the park headquarters for paperwork verification and instructions on what to do and not to do while with mountain gorillas. Following a pre-trekking briefing, ranger guides will trek with you into the gorillas’ territory, where you will spend four hours observing them as they play, somersault, laugh, feed, and more.
A gorilla group is dominated by females and led by a massive alpha male known as the silverback. Gorillas and humans share almost 95% of their DNA, highlighting their striking similarity.
You will closely observe the gorillas, listen to their over 25 unique sounds, and take notes where necessary. Afterward, enjoy a lunch break, take pictures, and hear the ranger guides’ insights about the apes. You can then choose to have some downtime or engage in an optional cultural experience with the Batwa pygmies, who will share stories of their forest life, perform traditional dances, and guide you around their community. End the day with dinner and an evening of relaxation at the lodge.
Day 3: Departure
Check out of the lodge after breakfast and transfer to Entebbe or Kampala for drop-off. Along the way, stop at the equator for rest, lunch, and photography. Uganda is one of only thirteen nations on the planet crossed by the equator, dividing the earth into northern and southern hemispheres.
End of safari.
