This 10-day tour is one of the extraordinary combined East African safari tours. It includes visit to Uganda gorillas in the dense tropical forest of Bwindi National Park and Mountaineering in Mount Kilimanjaro (5895m), Tanzania. Uganda is popular to host about half of the estimated 1063 mountain gorillas that are left on earth and, about 459 of them reside in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest.
Detailed itinerary
Day 1: Machame camp
After breakfast, you will be expected at Machame gate of Mt. Kilimanjaro Park, Tanzania. This is where you will begin your hike to Machame camp at 1800m, and it will take you about 4-5 hours to walk up to the camp. Have ample time to relax, enjoy lunch, dinner and overnight sleep.
Day 2: Shira Camp
Following a hefty breakfast in the morning, hike up to the Shira Camp (3847m). This will include picnic lunch and this is the second camp that is located along Machame route. The Shira plateau is known to have 2 camps- Shira Camp 1 (found along the Western part) and Eastern side has Shira Camp 2.
Day 3: Baranco Camp
Proceed to Baranco camp from Shira camp, and the camp is found at Barranco wall, a perfect spot to relax before you scale up to the summits of Mount Kilimanjaro. You will hike slowly considering soft ground along this path, and when you get the camp, have picnic lunch and relaxation.
Day 4: Barafu Camp
Leave Barranco camp for Barafu hut camp located at an altitude of 4673m. This camp derives its name from the Swahili word Barafu, meaning ice. En-route, walk through the glaciers before you get to the camp for picnic lunch, relaxation and view the surrounding areas.
Day 5: Uhuru Peak
Wake up early, have breakfast and you continue with 5-7 hours hike to Uhuru peak (5895m). This is Mt. Kilimanjaro’s highest point and it is at Kibo cone – dormant volcano. The other cones that make up the free-standing Kilimanjaro volcano include Mawenzi (5149m) and Shira (4005m). At Kibo cone, enjoy the breathtaking view of the surrounding and the snow peaks, then begin descending back to Barafu camp for short relaxation, then down to Mweka camp.
Day 6: Mweka Gate
Leave Mweka camp for Mweka gate where you will meet your driver. From Mweka gate, connect to your lodge or hotel for evening relaxation.
Day 7: Kigali
After breakfast, drive to the airport in Tanzania to catch up with your flight to Kigali international airport (KGL). Meet our driver guide in Rwanda for transfer to the lodge for relaxation or go for a short tour in the city if time allows.
Day 8: Kigali- Bwindi Forest
Transfer to Uganda to visit mountain gorillas in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park –(BINP). You will drive through the border points of Katuna -Kabale or Chanika to Kisoro and drive to Bwindi while viewing the charming hillside of Southwestern Uganda.
Day 9: Bwindi gorillas
After breakfast and briefing, at 8:00am begin a journey to visit mountain gorillas in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park- BINP, Uganda. Trekking Uganda gorillas takes a long day, and this is estimated to be 2-6 hours which means, you should come along with some packed lunch and bottled water.
Day 10: Departure
Enjoy an early morning breakfast, and later, you will travel back to Kigali, about 4-5 hours. With early arrival at Kigali, you will embark on city tour and this will include visiting the Kigali or Gisozi genocide memorial, craft shops to purchase some art pieces of your interest, not to miss to visit Kirimonko market plus other historical centers.
