4-Day Double Gorilla Trekking in Bwindi Impenetrable Park

from $2330 Per Person

This 4-day double gorilla trekking safari in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park gives you the rare chance to see two different mountain gorilla families on two separate days. This means double the experience and double the memories. Bwindi Impenetrable National Park hosts the largest population of mountain gorillas in the world. It is found in southwestern Uganda, at the base of the Virunga Mountains.

Bwindi is a hilly forest area, so a reasonable level of fitness is required. Each gorilla trekking experience takes between one and eight hours in the morning, depending on where the gorillas are located. Once the gorillas are found, you are allowed to spend one full hour with them for photography and observation. Optional cultural visits can be added after trekking.

Day 1: Pickup and Transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

On the first day, the driver guide will meet you at the agreed pickup point. After a short welcome, the guide will brief you about the safari and check your travel documents. You will then start the drive to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park.

The journey takes about 9 to 11 hours and passes through countryside areas, local towns, farmland, longhorn Ankole cattle, and traditional homes. Lunch and refreshments will be taken along the way. Arrive at your lodge in the evening, check in, and enjoy dinner. Rest well as the gorilla adventure begins the next morning.

Day 2: First Gorilla Trekking Experience in Bwindi

After an early breakfast, prepare for gorilla trekking by packing your lunch, water, camera, and personal items. Drive to the park headquarters for a briefing by the ranger guides. During the briefing, you will learn the trekking rules and be assigned a gorilla family.

You will then walk into the forest with your guide to search for the gorillas. The trek can be demanding, but the experience is very rewarding. Along the way, you may see birds, monkeys, and other forest animals. Once the gorillas are found, you will spend one hour with them, watching the silverback, mothers, and young ones.

After the hour ends, have lunch in the forest and return to the lodge. Relax in the evening, enjoy dinner, and stay overnight.

Day 3: Second Gorilla Trekking and Optional Cultural Visit

After breakfast, return to the park headquarters for your second gorilla trekking briefing. Today, you will track a different gorilla family, giving you a new experience. Each family has its own structure and behavior.

The trek again takes between 1 and 7 hours, depending on gorilla movement and your pace. Once found, you will spend one hour observing and taking photos. After trekking, return to the lodge.

In the afternoon, you may choose to visit the Batwa community. The Batwa people share stories about their former forest life through walks, dances, and simple demonstrations. Dinner and overnight stay at the lodge.

Day 4: End of Safari and Departure

Enjoy a relaxed breakfast at the lodge before starting the drive back to Kampala or Entebbe International Airport. Stop at the Equator line Mpigi for lunch and photos. Continue to your final drop-off point. End of safari.
