This 10-day Uganda Rwanda gorillas, Maasai Mara and Serengeti safari takes you across four of East Africa’s top wildlife destinations. The journey combines mountain gorilla trekking, classic big game safaris, and the famous wildebeest migration. You will visit two key gorilla parks in Africa, then continue to Kenya and Tanzania for wide savannah game viewing.
The safari starts in Uganda at Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, continues to Volcanoes National Park, then moves to Maasai Mara National Reserve and ends in Serengeti National Park.
This safari is ideal for travelers who want gorillas, big cats, open plains, and cross border adventure in a short time.
Day 1: Kampala to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park
Start the day with breakfast at your hotel in Kampala. Meet your driver guide and begin the long drive to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park in southwestern Uganda. The journey takes about eight to nine hours.
Along the way, stop at the Equator crossing for photos and a simple water experiment showing the Northern and Southern hemispheres. Continue to Igongo Cultural Centre for lunch. After lunch, proceed to Bwindi and check in at your lodge near the park. Dinner and overnight stay at the lodge.
Day 2: Gorilla Trekking in Bwindi
After an early breakfast, drive to the Buhoma park offices for a gorilla trekking briefing. This area has four habituated gorilla families that are visited on a rotating schedule.
The trek can take between two and six hours depending on where the gorillas are located and the walking pace of the group. A park ranger guide leads the trek and ensures safety. Once you find the gorillas, you will spend one hour observing them.
After the trek, return to the lodge to rest. In the afternoon, you may visit the Batwa community for a cultural experience. Dinner and overnight stay at the lodge.
Day 3: Bwindi to Volcanoes National Park Rwanda
After breakfast, check out and drive from Bwindi to Rwanda. Cross the border using either the Katuna or Chanika border post. Continue the drive to Volcanoes National Park in northwestern Rwanda.
Arrive at your lodge and check in. Spend the afternoon relaxing or choose an optional visit to Iby’Iwacu Cultural Village to learn about local traditions, music, and daily life. Dinner and overnight stay at the lodge.
Day 4: Gorilla Trekking in Volcanoes National Park
Wake up early for breakfast and drive to the Kinigi park headquarters. After a briefing by park rangers, you will be assigned to one of the gorilla families open for tourism.
The trek starts at around 8:00 am and is led by an experienced guide. Trekking time depends on the movement of the gorillas and can last several hours. Once you find the gorillas, you will spend one hour with them.
Return to the lodge for lunch and rest for the rest of the day. Dinner and overnight stay at the lodge.
Day 5: Transfer to Nairobi Kenya
After breakfast, check out and drive to Kigali. Enjoy a short city tour that may include the Kigali Genocide Memorial, local markets, and craft shops.
Later, transfer to Kigali International Airport for your flight to Nairobi. On arrival in Nairobi, meet your driver and transfer to your hotel. Dinner and overnight stay in Nairobi.
Day 6: Nairobi to Masai Mara National Reserve
Have breakfast at the hotel, then depart Nairobi for Masai Mara National Reserve in southwestern Kenya. The drive takes about six to seven hours.
Arrive at the reserve and check in at your lodge. Depending on arrival time, enjoy lunch and relax or take an afternoon game drive inside the reserve. Dinner and overnight stay at the lodge.
Day 7: Full Day Game Safari in Masai Mara
Spend the full day exploring Masai Mara National Reserve with morning and afternoon game drives. This area is known for big cats and large herds of animals.
You may see elephants, buffaloes, lions, leopards, cheetahs, giraffes, wildebeests, zebras, hyenas, and many bird species. Enjoy a picnic lunch inside the reserve before continuing with more wildlife viewing. Return to the lodge for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 8: Masai Mara to Serengeti National Park
After an early breakfast, check out and drive toward the Isebania border. Clear border formalities and continue into Tanzania.
Proceed to Serengeti National Park, entering the park with game viewing along the way. The journey takes about seven to eight hours. Arrive at your lodge in Serengeti, check in, and enjoy dinner and overnight stay.
Day 9: Full Day Game Viewing in Serengeti
Spend the entire day on game drives inside Serengeti National Park. This park is known for large open plains and the wildebeest migration.
You may see lions, leopards, cheetahs, elephants, buffaloes, giraffes, zebras, wildebeests, impalas, elands, and many birds. Visit rocky kopjes where lions often rest and watch their surroundings. Enjoy lunch during the game drive. Return to the lodge for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 10: Serengeti to Arusha and Departure
After an early breakfast, check out and enjoy a final game drive while leaving Serengeti National Park. Watch for animals along the way as you drive toward Arusha.
On arrival in Arusha, your driver guide will transfer you to your hotel or the airport for your onward flight. This marks the end of your 10-day Uganda Rwanda gorillas, Maasai Mara and Serengeti safari.
