This 4-day double gorilla trekking in Rwanda safari gives you the rare chance to trek mountain gorillas twice in Volcanoes National Park. During these four days, you will visit two different gorilla families and enjoy more time learning about their daily life. You will watch gorillas playing, grooming each other, feeding, and moving through the forest. This tour also includes a cultural visit to the Ibyiwacu Cultural Village, where you will learn about the traditions and daily life of the Rwandan people. The safari starts and ends in Kigali.
Day 1: Arrival and Kigali City Tour
Arrive at Kigali International Airport, where your driver guide will welcome you and brief you about the 4 days of double gorilla trekking in Rwanda. After the briefing, begin a city tour around Kigali.
During the city tour, you will visit the Kigali Genocide Memorial Site to learn about the 1994 genocide and pay respect to the victims. You will also visit the Kigali Art Museum, the Belgian War Memorial Monument, and local markets where you can see daily life in the city. After the tour, drive to your lodge, check in, enjoy dinner, and rest for the night.
Day 2: Gorilla Trekking and Ibyiwacu Cultural Village Visit
Wake up early for breakfast and then drive to the park headquarters at Volcanoes National Park. Here, you will attend a briefing on gorilla trekking rules and safety guidelines. Walking sticks will be provided to help you move through forest trails.
After the briefing, you will be assigned one gorilla family and a park guide. Trek into the forest to search for the gorillas. The trek can take several hours depending on where the gorillas are found. Once you meet the gorillas, you will spend one full hour observing them. You can take photos and watch how they interact.
After the trek, return to the lodge for lunch. In the evening, visit the Ibyiwacu Cultural Village. Enjoy traditional dances, songs, and stories from the local community. You may also taste local foods if you wish. Return to the lodge for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 3: Second Gorilla Trekking Experience and Relaxation
After breakfast, return to Volcanoes National Park for your second gorilla trekking experience. This time, you will visit a different gorilla family. Although their behavior is similar, each family has unique members and social patterns.
Spend one hour with the gorillas, take photos, and observe their daily activities. After the trek, return to the lodge for lunch. Spend the rest of the day relaxing at the lodge and enjoying the quiet surroundings.
Day 4: Departure
Enjoy breakfast at the lodge, check out, and then drive back to Kigali. Your driver guide will drop you at Kigali International Airport for your departure flight, marking the end of your 4-day double gorilla trekking in Rwanda.
