Top Things to See in Uganda for First Time Visitors

Searching for top things to see in Uganda? Uganda offers many places that visitors enjoy seeing during their trip. From busy cities to national parks, waterfalls, mountains, and wildlife areas, the country has many sights that leave good memories.

Kampala City is one of the main places to see in Uganda. Kampala is the capital city and has many tall buildings surrounded by wide suburbs. It is an important commercial, political, and transport center. The city is about 35 kilometers from Entebbe International Airport, which is the main entry and exit point for travelers.

Many visitors begin their journey in Kampala before heading to remote parts of the country or nearby tourist destinations. At night, Kampala has clubs that attract visitors who enjoy music and social life, though travelers are advised not to drink and drive. For those who prefer a quiet evening, the city also has restaurants where visitors can enjoy cocktails and well-prepared meals.

Uganda is well known for its primates, which can be seen in national parks such as Bwindi Impenetrable National Park and Kibale National Park. These parks are home to chimpanzees, mountain gorillas, apes, baboons, and monkeys. Many of these primates are often seen during the wet season when fruits and vegetation are available.

Visitors are advised to start trekking early in the morning to see more primates and observe their daily activities. An experienced guide helps visitors follow the right paths and increases the chances of seeing these animals.

Bird watching is another important attraction in Uganda. Visitors can see many bird species in Queen Elizabeth National Park and other parks across the country. Birds are commonly seen near lakes, rivers, swamps, savannah areas, and forests. Some of the birds visitors may see include the African kingfisher, African fish eagle, grey crowned crane, white-faced whistling duck, saddle-billed stork, great white pelican, pink-backed pelican, Goliath heron, great egret, little egret, African open-bill stork, yellow-bellied stork, African darter, and African jacana.

Another place worth seeing is Murchison Falls located in Murchison Falls National Park. The waterfall is formed where the Nile River is forced through a narrow gap before falling down. The park is also home to mammals, primates, reptiles, and carnivores, giving visitors a full wildlife experience.

Before returning to Kampala, visitors can look toward the skies to see Rwenzori Mountains. These mountains are snow covered throughout the year and are often called the Mountains of the Moon.

Uganda allows visitors to enjoy nature, wildlife, cities, and historical sites in one journey.
