This 15-day Uganda Rwanda gorilla and wildebeest migration safari takes you to three East African countries: Uganda, Rwanda, and Kenya. The safari combines primate trekking, wildlife viewing, boat cruises, cultural visits, and famous Savannah parks. You will track mountain gorillas twice, see chimpanzees in the forest, enjoy classic game drives, and witness the wildebeest migration in Kenya.
In Uganda, you will visit Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, Kibale National Park, and Queen Elizabeth National Park.
In Rwanda, you will explore Volcanoes National Park and enjoy a city tour of Kigali.
In Kenya, the safari includes Amboseli National Park, Lake Nakuru National Park, and Masai Mara National Reserve.
Day 1: Arrival in Kigali and Transfer to Volcanoes National Park
On arrival at Kigali International Airport, you will be welcomed by your professional driver guide. After a short briefing about your 15-day Uganda Rwanda gorilla and wildebeest migration safari, you will transfer to a hotel in Kigali for lunch.
After lunch, drive north to Volcanoes National Park. The journey takes about two to three hours through rural Rwanda. On arrival, check in at your lodge, relax, and enjoy dinner.
Day 2: Gorilla Trekking in Volcanoes National Park
After an early breakfast, drive to the park headquarters for a briefing by park rangers. You will be assigned a gorilla family and a ranger guide.
The trek takes you through forest trails and valleys in search of mountain gorillas. Trekking time varies depending on the location of the gorillas. Once found, you will spend one hour observing their daily life.
After the trek, return to the park offices and drive back to the lodge for rest, dinner, and overnight stay.
Day 3: Kigali City Tour and Transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park
After breakfast, check out and enjoy a short Kigali city tour. Visit local markets and the Kigali Genocide Memorial Site to learn about Rwanda’s history.
After lunch, drive to the Uganda border and continue to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. This park is home to half of the world’s remaining mountain gorillas. Arrive at the lodge in the evening, check in, and rest.
Day 4: Gorilla Trekking in Bwindi and Batwa Cultural Experience
Enjoy an early breakfast, then drive to the park offices for a gorilla trekking briefing. Enter the forest with ranger guides to search for your assigned gorilla family.
After finding the gorillas, spend one hour watching and taking photos. Return to the starting point and drive back to the lodge.
In the afternoon, visit the Batwa community to learn about their culture, traditions, and forest life. Dinner and overnight stay at the lodge.
Day 5: Drive to Queen Elizabeth National Park via Ishasha Sector
After breakfast, drive to Queen Elizabeth National Park. Pass through the Ishasha sector, famous for tree climbing lions.
Enjoy a short game drive in Ishasha to look for lions, buffaloes, elephants, and antelopes. Continue to the lodge inside Queen Elizabeth National Park. Dinner and overnight stay.
Day 6: Morning Game Drive and Kazinga Channel Boat Cruise
After breakfast, enjoy a morning game drive in the Kasenyi Plains. Animals often seen include elephants, Uganda kobs, buffaloes, warthogs, hyenas, and birds.
Return to the lodge for lunch. In the afternoon, take a boat cruise on the Kazinga Channel. This waterway connects Lake Edward and Lake George and is home to hippos, crocodiles, and many bird species. Return to the lodge for dinner.
Day 7: Transfer to Kibale National Park and Bigodi Swamp Walk
After breakfast, drive to Kibale National Park. The journey takes about two hours and offers views of villages and the Rwenzori area.
Check in at the lodge and have lunch. In the afternoon, visit Bigodi Swamp for a guided nature walk. Look out for monkeys, birds, and wetland plants. Return to the lodge for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 8: Chimpanzee Trekking in Kibale National Park
After breakfast, drive to Kanyanchu Visitor Centre for a chimpanzee trekking briefing. Enter the forest with ranger guides to search for chimpanzees.
Chimpanzee trekking can take between two and seven hours. Once located, spend one hour observing them. After the trek, return to the lodge for lunch and rest.
Day 9: Drive to Kampala and Fly to Nairobi
After breakfast, check out and drive to Kampala via Fort Portal. Enjoy a short stop to visit cultural and natural sites along the way.
Continue to Entebbe International Airport for your flight to Nairobi, Kenya. On arrival, meet your Kenyan driver guide and transfer to the hotel for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 10: Drive to Amboseli National Park
After breakfast, drive to Amboseli National Park. The journey takes about five hours.
Arrive at the lodge in time for lunch. In the afternoon, enjoy a game drive in the park with views of Mount Kilimanjaro. Look for elephants, buffaloes, and plains animals. Return to the lodge for dinner.
Day 11: Full Day Game Viewing in Amboseli National Park
Spend the full day exploring Amboseli National Park. Morning and afternoon game drives give chances to see lions, cheetahs, giraffes, zebras, and many birds.
Enjoy lunch in the park with views of Mount Kilimanjaro. Return to the lodge in the evening for dinner and rest.
Day 12: Drive from Amboseli to Lake Nakuru National Park
After breakfast, drive to Lake Nakuru National Park. Check in at the lodge and have lunch.
In the afternoon, enjoy a game drive around the lake. Look for flamingos, rhinos, zebras, and waterbirds. Return to the lodge for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 13: Morning Game Drive and Transfer to Masai Mara
After breakfast, enjoy a morning game drive to see animals missed earlier. Return to the lodge for lunch.
After lunch, drive to Masai Mara Game Reserve. Arrive at the lodge in the evening, check in, and rest.
Day 14: Full Day Masai Mara Safari
Spend the full day in Masai Mara. Witness the wildebeest migration if visiting between July and October. Look for lions, elephants, buffaloes, leopards, and rhinos.
Optional hot air balloon safari is available. Return to the lodge in the evening for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 15: Return to Nairobi and Departure
After breakfast, check out and drive to Nairobi. Depending on your flight time, enjoy an optional city tour before transfer to the international airport for departure.
