3 Days Nyungwe Forest Tour – Explore one of Africa’s oldest tropical forests and a rich primate destination, Nyungwe Forest National Park. This safari highlights chimpanzee tracking/trekking and a canopy walk, along with a visit to the King’s palace in Butare. Nyungwe Forest NP is a spectacular tropical forest park boasting 13 primate species including L’Hoest monkeys, 400 colobus monkeys, and 500 chimpanzees. Detailed Itinerary
Day 1: Nyungwe Forest Tour
After breakfast, receive a briefing from your safari leader about the 3-day Nyungwe Forest tour. Depart at 8:00 am local time from Kigali to Nyungwe Forest National Park in the Southern province of Rwanda. The journey takes approximately 5 to 6 hours in a 4×4 safari car, with stops en route including visits to the Butare museum and King’s palace, followed by lunch. Your final stop will be at the lodge in Nyungwe Forest NP for dinner and an overnight stay.
Day 2: Chimpanzee Trekking & Canopy Walk Tour – Nyungwe Forest
Arrive at the Uwinka reception for a briefing on chimpanzee trekking rules and regulations. You will be assigned a park guide to lead you through Nyungwe Forest in search of chimpanzees and other primates. The trek lasts 2-4 hours, with one hour guaranteed for a magical encounter.
After a leisurely lunch, embark on a canopy walk at 2:00 pm along the suspended walkway spanning 200m. Enjoy incredible views and the sounds of the lush Nyungwe Forest, keeping an eye out for birds and other wildlife. Return for a leisurely dinner and overnight stay.
Day 3: Kigali & Departure
Enjoy a delicious breakfast at the lodge, then check out and meet your driver guide. Depart for Kigali early enough to visit the Kigali genocide memorial or proceed directly to the airport for your flight home.
