4 Days Akagera National Park Safari is a special wildlife tour package that gives you the chance to explore Rwanda’s only savanna park, Akagera National Park. This park is the only place in Rwanda where you can see all the Big Five animals on one safari. These include lions, leopards, elephants, rhinos, and buffaloes, together with many other savanna animals and birds.
Akagera National Park was established in 1934 and lies in eastern Rwanda along the border with Tanzania. The park is known for open plains, woodlands, wetlands, and several lakes. This 4-day safari combines game drives and a boat cruise, offering relaxed wildlife viewing and time to enjoy nature. The safari starts and ends in Kigali.
Day 1: Arrival and City Tour in Kigali
Upon arrival at Kigali International Airport, you will be picked up by your driver guide and briefed about the 4 days Akagera National Park safari. If time allows, enjoy a short city tour in Kigali. Visit the Gisozi Genocide Memorial Center to learn about Rwanda’s history. You will also stop at local markets and craft centers before being transferred to your hotel for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 2: Road Trip to Akagera National Park for Wildlife Viewing
After breakfast, depart Kigali for Akagera National Park. The drive takes about 1.5 hours in a 4×4 safari vehicle. Upon arrival, check in at the lodge and enjoy lunch. In the afternoon, go for a game drive inside the park. Look out for elephants, giraffes, zebras, antelopes, buffaloes, and many bird species. Return to the lodge for dinner and rest.
Day 3: Game Drive and Boat Cruise
Enjoy breakfast and head out for a morning game drive lasting about 2 to 3 hours. During this drive, you may see lions, leopards, rhinos, elephants, warthogs, hyenas, and Masai giraffes. Return to the lodge for lunch and relaxation.
In the afternoon, take a boat cruise on Lake Ihema. This cruise lasts about 2 to 3 hours and offers close views of hippos, crocodiles, and water birds along the shores.
Day 4: Departure
After breakfast, check out of the lodge and exit the park with a short wildlife drive. Return to Kigali for lunch and later transfer to the airport for your departure flight. End of Safari.
