6-Day Rwanda Gorillas & Serengeti Safari

The 6 Days Rwanda Gorillas and Serengeti Safari is a short but rewarding East Africa journey that combines mountain gorilla trekking in Rwanda with classic wildlife viewing in Tanzania. This safari starts in Rwanda at Kigali and ends in Arusha, making it ideal for travelers who want primates, culture, and big game in one trip.

During this safari, you will enjoy a guided city tour in Kigali, visit local markets, learn about Rwanda’s history, trek mountain gorillas in Volcanoes National Park, and take part in a cultural visit. You will then fly to Tanzania to explore Serengeti National Park, one of Africa’s most famous wildlife areas, known for large animal populations and open plains.

Day 1: Arrival at Kigali Airport and City Tour

On arrival at Kigali International Airport, your safari driver guide will meet you and give a short briefing about the 6 Days Rwanda Gorillas and Serengeti Safari. From the airport, you will begin a Kigali city tour.

During the tour, you will visit Kimironko Market, where local people sell fruits, vegetables, and handmade items. You will also visit the Kigali Genocide Memorial Center to learn about Rwanda’s past and the events of 1994. After the tour, drive to your hotel for dinner and an overnight stay.

Day 2: Transfer to Volcanoes National Park

After breakfast at your hotel, you will drive north to Volcanoes National Park. The journey takes about two to three hours and passes through villages, farmland, and hills.

Volcanoes National Park is home to endangered mountain gorillas and golden monkeys. On arrival, check in at your lodge near the park. Spend the rest of the day resting and preparing for the next day’s gorilla trek. Dinner and overnight stay at the lodge.

Day 3: Gorilla Trekking and Cultural Experience

After an early breakfast, drive to the park headquarters for a briefing on gorilla trekking rules. You will be placed in a small group of up to eight people and assigned a park guide.

Gorilla trekking can take between one and eight hours, depending on where the gorillas are located. When you find them, you will spend one hour watching them feed, rest, and interact. After the trek, return to the lodge for lunch and rest.

In the evening, visit Iby’iwacu Cultural Center. Here, you will learn about local traditions through music, dance, stories, and daily life demonstrations. Return to the lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 4: Transfer to Serengeti National Park

After breakfast, transfer back to Kigali International Airport for your flight to Tanzania. On arrival near Serengeti National Park, meet your Tanzanian driver guide and transfer to your lodge.

After lunch, enjoy a short evening game drive in Serengeti National Park. You may see animals such as zebras, giraffes, elephants, and antelopes before returning to the lodge for dinner.

Day 5: Full Day Game Drive in Serengeti

Start the day early with breakfast and carry a packed lunch for a full day game drive. Serengeti National Park is known for wildlife such as lions, cheetahs, elephants, buffaloes, wildebeests, zebras, and many bird species.

You will spend the day driving through different areas of the park, stopping for wildlife viewing and lunch in the bush. In the late afternoon, return to your lodge for dinner and overnight rest.

Day 6: Drive to Arusha and Departure

After breakfast, check out from the lodge and drive to Arusha. You will be transferred to the airport for your departure flight, marking the end of your 6 Days Rwanda Gorillas and Serengeti Safari.
