This 3-day Bwindi safari from Kigali offers a short and rewarding gorilla trekking experience in southwestern Uganda. The safari allows you to explore forest life and see butterflies, birds, flowers, and other small forest creatures. The main focus of the tour is mountain gorilla trekking in their natural habitat.
During this safari, you visit Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, one of the most important protected areas for mountain gorillas in Africa. While on the trek, you may observe gorillas grooming each other, climbing trees, feeding, and building nests. This experience offers close contact with gorillas in the wild under the guidance of trained park rangers.
Detailed Itinerary
Day 1: Transfer to Bwindi from Kigali
Your safari begins in Kigali, Rwanda’s capital city. After pickup by your driver guide, you will receive a short briefing about the 3-day Bwindi safari from Kigali. You will then drive toward Uganda using either the Katuna Border or the Cyanika Border, depending on road conditions and timing.
The drive to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park takes about four to five hours. Along the way, enjoy countryside views and local communities. On arrival, check in at your lodge for a late lunch, relaxation, dinner, and overnight stay.
Day 2: Gorilla Trekking in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park
Wake up early for breakfast, then transfer to the park offices for gorilla trekking. At the briefing point, a ranger guide will explain trekking rules and assign you to a gorilla family. Each group is limited to eight visitors per gorilla family.
The trekking experience usually takes about three hours in total. This includes walking to find the gorillas, spending one hour with them, and returning to the meeting point. During the visit, you can take photos, watch gorilla behavior, and ask questions from your guide.
After the trek, return to the lodge for lunch and rest for the remainder of the day.
Day 3: Return to Kigali
After breakfast, take time to walk around the lodge area if you wish. You may spot birds, butterflies, or forest plants near the lodge. Later, check out and begin the drive back to Kigali.
