Introducing the 3 days Mgahinga Gorillas and Monkeys tour in Uganda’s southwest. East of the African continent, Uganda is one of the top places to go on safari. Golden monkeys, the most exquisite species of monkeys on the planet, are exclusively found in Uganda’s Mgahinga Gorilla National Park. This experience is unavailable in any national park elsewhere in the country. You will follow the unique mountain gorillas on foot, which are only found in Africa. In the Mgahinga Gorilla National Park, gold and silver are combined.
Other activities include photography, guided nature walks, cultural performances by the Batwa pygmies, and more. The agreed-upon pick-up and drop-off location is Mgahinga, where the excursion begins and concludes.
Detailed tour.
Day 1: Meet, greet and transfer to Mgahinga National Park.
At the pre-arranged pickup location, our driver guide will meet and greet you. At the beginning of the nine to ten-hour drive to the south-western region of Uganda there is a briefing and glass of juice. Drive through a road that is tarmacked and surrounded by verdant hills.
You may catch a glimpse of locals conducting usual business in the crowded towns along the way, Ankole herdsmen with their long-horned cattle and more. Break for lunch and refreshment along the way. Check in at the lodge, finish the day with dinner and a relaxed siesta.
Day 2: Gorilla trekking and Batwa pygmies.
With a dawn breakfast at the lodge, start the day of your ideal experience. Registration, document verification and pre-tracking briefing will then take place at the park headquarters once you pick up the tracking equipment, ranger guide and porters.
In a group of no more than 8 guests, you will track one famous gorilla family in the Mgahinga Gorilla National Park. The ranger guides will go over the trekking regulations with you before joining you in the forest to begin the search. They will go from the location of their last sighting to the area where they are believed to be hiding while you follow the broken tree branches, leaves and dung.
Gorilla trekking happens on foot and lasts between one to six hours, including one additional hour for shooting pictures and interacting with ranger guides. Meeting the mother nursing her babies, silverbacks posing with the family and the youngstars playing is such a joyful experience.
During the search, trackers also get to identify various tree species, forest creatures and birds. After the day’s activities, return to the lodge for lunch and refreshments. Batwa pygmies who were once forest dwellers, will then perform at sunset. These individuals are among the world’s shortest. After the songs and stories, call it a day with dinner and overnight at the lodge.
Day 3: Golden monkey trekking and departure.
You will have breakfast at the lodge before traveling to the park’s administrative point for a pre-tour briefing. The ranger guide will greet you and provide you information on the golden monkeys as well as the dos and don’ts of hiking. The unusual species of primates known as “golden monkeys” are extremely lively with golden fur. Being active and vigilant is necessary if you want to take stunning pictures because they are very swift and jump from one tree branch to another.
It takes around 2 to 6 hours to track and find them, plus an additional hour for snapping pictures and interacting with the ranger guides. Because they are timid, these monkeys will make every effort to avoid humans. You will leave the forest after this experience for lunch before continuing to Kigali, Rwanda.
