7-Day Bwindi Gorilla Trekking Circuit in Uganda

This 7-Day Bwindi Gorilla Trekking Circuit is one of the most complete gorilla safaris in Uganda. It is designed for travelers who want to visit several gorilla trekking sectors in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park on one trip. The safari starts in Entebbe and ends in Kampala, giving you a full experience of Uganda’s primate tourism.

During this circuit, you will trek gorillas in four different sectors of Bwindi. These include Buhoma Sector, Nkuringo Sector, Rushaga Sector, and Ruhija Sector. You will also visit the Uganda Wildlife Education Centre and stop at the Equator Line on your return journey.

Day 1: Arrive in Entebbe, Visit Uganda Wildlife Education Centre, Transfer to Hotel

Upon arrival at Entebbe International Airport, your driver guide will meet you and give a short briefing about the safari. From the airport, you will drive to the Uganda Wildlife Education Centre, formerly known as the Entebbe Zoo.

At the centre, you will see animals such as lions, hyenas, Uganda kobs, snakes, pythons, and birds like the shoebill stork. After the visit, you will drive to your booked hotel in Entebbe for dinner and an overnight stay.

Day 2: Transfer to Buhoma Sector, Northern Bwindi

Wake up early for breakfast, then check out and begin the long drive to the Buhoma Sector of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. This journey takes most of the day and passes through central and western Uganda.

Along the way, you will stop briefly at the Equator in Mpigi for photos. Continue the drive through countryside towns and villages. Arrive at your lodge in Buhoma in the evening. Dinner and overnight stay at the lodge.

Day 3: Gorilla Trekking in Buhoma and Transfer to Nkuringo Sector

After breakfast, drive to the park headquarters in Buhoma for registration and briefing. Rangers will explain the rules for gorilla trekking before assigning you to a gorilla family.

The trek can last between one and seven hours, depending on where the gorillas are found. Once you meet them, you will spend one full hour watching their behavior and taking photos. After the trek, return to the park offices to receive your trekking certificate.

Later, drive south to the Nkuringo Sector. Check in at your lodge, enjoy dinner, and rest overnight.

Day 4: Gorilla Trekking in Nkuringo and Transfer to Rushaga Sector

Start the day with breakfast, then drive to the Nkuringo briefing point. Nkuringo is located in the southern part of Bwindi and is known for steep terrain.

After the briefing, begin your gorilla trek, which can take one to seven hours. You will spend one hour with the gorilla family before returning to the park offices for your certificate.

After lunch, drive to the Rushaga Sector. Check in at your lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 5: Gorilla Trekking in Rushaga and Transfer to Ruhija Sector

After an early breakfast, drive to the Rushaga park offices for briefing. Rushaga has several habituated gorilla families, giving good trekking chances.

The gorilla trek follows the same process as previous days. Spend one hour with the gorillas, then return for your trekking certificate. Later, drive to the Ruhija Sector in the eastern part of Bwindi. Dinner and overnight stay at your lodge.

Day 6: Gorilla Trekking in Ruhija and Leisure

After breakfast, head to the Ruhija briefing point. Ruhija is home to several gorilla families and also offers chances to see forest birds.

Trek into the forest with rangers and porters. The trek may last one to seven hours. Spend one hour with the gorillas, then return to the lodge. The rest of the day is for relaxation. Dinner and overnight stay at the lodge.

Day 7: Transfer Back to Kampala with Stop at the Equator

After breakfast, check out and start the drive back to Kampala. Stop at the Equator in Kayabwe for lunch, photos, and a simple water experiment.
