Murchison Falls National Park is the largest protected area in Uganda and ranks first among the country’s ten national parks. The park lies across Masindi District, Nwoya District, Buliisa District, and Kiryandongo District in northwestern Uganda.
A 3-day safari to Murchison Falls National Park offers a chance to see key land features such as strong waterfalls, open plains, riverbanks, wildlife, birds, and reptiles. The park is divided by the Nile River, which supports many animals and bird species along its banks.
Detailed Itinerary
Day 1: Transfer to Murchison Falls National Park
You will be picked up from Kampala or Entebbe by a professional safari guide. After a short briefing, begin the drive to Murchison Falls National Park. The journey takes about four to six hours, depending on stops along the way.
On arrival, enjoy a meal at your lodge. Later, you may choose an evening game drive to look for animals that are active at this time of day. After the drive, return to the lodge to rest and prepare for the next day.
Day 2: Game Drive and Boat Cruise
After an early breakfast, meet your safari guide and head to the park headquarters to pick up a ranger guide. Begin the morning game drive when animals are most active. You may see lions, elephants, spotted hyenas, hartebeests, bushbucks, hippos, buffaloes, and other animals.
Return to the lodge for lunch. In the afternoon, go for a boat cruise along the Nile. During the cruise, you can see hippos, Nile crocodiles, and many water birds. After the cruise, visit the Top of Murchison Falls to watch the river pass through a narrow gap. Return to the lodge for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 3: Morning Game Drive and Return to Kampala
After breakfast, check out of the lodge and begin the drive back to Kampala. Enjoy a short game drive as you leave the park for a final chance to see wildlife. The drive back takes about six hours.
