In northern Rwanda, near Mount Muhabura, are the twin lakes known as Lake Burera and Lake Ruhondo. These lakes were formed by volcanic activity after lava blocked the flow of River Nyaborongo. Today, the lakes support fishing communities and offer boat trips where visitors can see birds such as the African fish eagle, kingfishers, and crowned cranes.
