The Kibati patrol post, also known as the Kibati ranger station, is found inside Virunga National Park in the Democratic Republic of Congo. It is the main starting point for mountain gorilla trekking and for hiking some of the Virunga range mountains. Many visitors pass through Kibati before starting their activities in the park.

Gorilla Trekking
Gorilla trekking is the most popular activity done near Kibati patrol post. All trekking permits are checked at the station before the activity begins. Visitors receive a briefing from park rangers and are assigned a ranger guide.
Virunga National Park has eight habituated mountain gorilla families. Only eight people are allowed to visit each family per day. Once the gorillas are found, visitors spend one hour watching their behavior and taking photos.
Gorilla trekking permits in Congo cost about $400 per person, making them cheaper compared to neighboring countries. It is important to book permits in advance, especially during busy months.
The best time for mountain gorilla trekking is during the dry season when roads and forest trails are easier to use. Visitors should carry hiking boots, raincoats, warm long sleeved clothes, insect repellent, sunscreen, and other personal items.
Volcanic Hiking
Kibati patrol station is also the main place to organize volcano hikes. All hiking requirements are handled here, including permits and equipment hire. Some hikes are done over two days, with an overnight stay on the mountain.
